India's demographic advantage presents a unique opportunity for economic growth, with over a billion people entering the working-age group by 2030. The sheer size of the projected labour workforce is historically unprecedented. This requires swift policy changes, accelerated structural transformation and reimagination of the skill development programs. The session will deliberate on the solutions to create quality jobs in the non-agriculture / non-farm sector; both from the demand side (developing infrastructure, promoting MSMEs, export-oriented industries, remote services sector etc.) and the supply side (skill development, social protection, rural-urban nexus, etc.). On the supply side, there's a need for innovative skill development programs, robust social protection mechanisms, and strengthening the rural-urban connection. Additionally, updating labour laws and regulations, creating an inclusive job market for women, and preparing for the rise of automation are critical aspects. The session focuses on the scale or quality of job creation to absorb India's growing workforce and in which sectors; discuss the private and public sector perspective on creating jobs and the policy impediments and solutions working on ground.
